  Senior Learning Room
‘School Readiness’ Room (4-5 years)

Our program for 4-5 year olds encompasses a wide variety of planned activities centered around the developmental goals of the program. These educational activities offer your child experiences in language, math, science, music, and art, to name a few. Our program focuses on the established developmental level of the children as individuals and is designed to meet each one where they are and lead them forward.

The focus in our ‘Senior Learning Room’ is on preparing the children for kindergarten and a well rounded successful life. We aim to develop each child’s social skills and arm them with the skills for thinking, problem solving, independence and other social skills needed for their future life in and out of school.

Four to five year old children are extremely inquisitive and want to understand the world around them. At Wakefield we encourage your child to learn new literacy skills through the use of the ‘Letterland’ program, and encourage numeracy and computer skills in our computer learning corner.

Children partake in a wide array of projects, and focus topics during the year. The children explore various subject matters including road safety, recycling, science projects, and nature, to name a few. At Wakefield Early Learning Centre we provide an environment in which your child can learn in a stimulating, safe and supportive environment.

At lunch time all the children are invited to our dining room to enjoy a freshly cooked hot lunch. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to socialise and encourage one another to eat certain meals they wouldn’t normally experience. After lunch the children enjoy the centre’s library area before returning to their learning rooms for a sleep/rest time. In the afternoon the children continue to enjoy our centre’s preschool program before enjoying our large natural playground area outside in the afternoon. Afternoon tea and late afternoon tea is provided to all children prior to families returning to the centre for pickup. Our centre is open from 7.30am until 6pm; providing an educational long day care centre service to all families.

Each child will have a personalised portfolio to record and visually demonstrate to families the development of your child. Their Portfolio will contain observations, photos, examples of your child’s work, as well as regular dialogue of your child’s day.

At Wakefield our team love to involve parents and keep you up-to-date by providing overviews, parents letters, visual daily journals and a daily visual slide show of your child’s day.
